  8.  AB    A 41 year old gentleman presented to the Ophthalmologist with a 6 month
  9.        history of progressive painless loss of vision of his left eye.
  10.        Examination was essentially normal except for the presence of an optic
  11.        neuritis, with visual acuity limited to hand movement only. Positive
  12.        investigations included the presence of a VDRL titre of 1:32 with a
  13.        positive TPHA and a CSF VDRL titre of 1:1. The patient was diagnosed to
  14.        have optic neuritis secondary to syphilis and treated with high dose
  15.        crystalline penicillin with remarkable improvement of his visual acuity.
  16.        We present this case with a review of the literature.
